I've always enjoyed letterforms but it wasn't until it was part of my profession that I realized other people also had this weird fascination as well. I can track my interest from handwriting to calligraphy to graffiti to hand-lettering to handmade fonts and hand-painted signage to formal typography. Now I just like it all.
