When the site-wide header came due for a redesign, we set out to (1) retain the banner ad for signed-out visitors; (2) incorporate a shopping cart link with item count; (3) increase visibility of 'change location', 'sign up', and 'sign in' actions; (4) reduce wasted vertical space.
